WHAT IS AFAI?

A bold way of contributing to poverty reduction through fighting illiteracy.

Who are we?

Africa Foundation Against Illiteracy (AFAI) is a non-profit organization whose primary objective is to contribute to poverty reduction in Africa through helping those that are poor,
vulnerable and marginalized groups to have access to quality education. AFAI intends to complement governments' efforts in reduction of illiteracy as they cannot solve the task of eradicating illiteracy alone.

Background

Illiteracy is one of the major stumbling blocks or great hurdles to economic growth, especially to developing countries in Africa.

Mission Statement

To promote literacy in Africa by partnering with relevant stakeholders in dealing with challenges that hinder progress in the education sector.

Vision

A world where there is equitable access to quality education, as access to basic literacy education is the heart of development of any nation.

Goals

AFAI aims to fight poverty by creating learning opportunities for every child, regardless of their social status, beliefs, color, gender and religion.

Making Africa a better place

Provide civic education to communities in order to encourage education and reduce school dropouts (tackle issues like early marriages, child labor, and lack of interest in school) and have motivational meetings in schools to encourage a large number of students. There should be awareness for the value of literacy and the need of education.
How old. This is the detailed answer. It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout.
To discourage harmful cultural practices that interfere with the education of children.
To facilitate teachers’ workshops aimed at arming them with extra skills in teaching approaches that suit different classroom environments. This will always be in line with the existing education policies.
To work hand in hand with the government to make sure that effective measures have been taken to stop child labor.
To encourage students that are already in school to stay in school and perform brilliantly by awarding scholarships and other incentives to the best performing students in each class by the end of every term.
Promote gender equality through training teachers on gender-sensitive approaches.
To encourage open schools so that toiling masses and elderly people can receive education later in the day.
To ensure that all schools have qualified teachers through a campaign targeting private schools that employ unqualified teachers as an alternative for cheap human resource. AFAI believes that teachers without proper training are another contributing factor to high levels of illiteracy as most of them will exhibit a high level of incompetence in the classroom situation.
AFAI will therefore collaborate with the Ministry of Education in flushing out the tendency of employing unqualified teachers.

Charity & love are the same

Through acts of kindness and a commitment to education, we extend love by empowering communities with the gift of literacy.
